Abstract

Soya saponin is a triterpenoid compound of 30 carbon atom. It’s recorded that they have an in-vitro antimicrobial
activity against Gram- positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermiditis), Gram- negative bacteria
(Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Erwinia amylovora and E. carotovora),
Candida albicans and plant pathogenic fungi (Fusarium oxysporium and Botrytis cinerea). And also have an insecticidal
activity against stored product insects. Toxicity of soya saponin against Tribolium castaneum was more than Rhyzopertha
dominica and Sitophilus oryzae and its LC50 against T. castaneum were 44.63, 18.16, 6.83, 4.03 and 2.741 (µg / cm2
)
after 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours respectively. In addition, nematicidal activity of soya saponin against root-knot
nematode Meloidogyne incognita was determined.
